Frequently asked questions

How much raw food should I feed my dog?

Many adult raw feeding guides start from about 2–3% of ideal body weight per day. This calculator uses 2.5% for adult maintenance by default and lets you adjust the percentage.

Should I enter current weight or ideal weight?

For adult dogs, use ideal body weight when possible. For puppies, use current weight because they are still growing and their feeding percentage changes with age.

What BARF percentages does the calculator use?

The adult preset uses 70% muscle meat, 10% raw meaty bone, 5% liver, 5% other organs, 7% vegetables, 2% seeds, and 1% fruits. The puppy preset uses 58%, 17%, 7%, 7%, 7%, 3%, and 1%.

Can I use an 80/10/10 raw dog food plan?

Yes. The calculator includes an 80/10/10 preset and editable percentage fields, so you can build a custom split and check whether the total equals 100%.

Is raw food safe for dogs?

Raw feeding is controversial. It may suit some dogs, but risks include bacteria, infection exposure, and nutritional imbalance. Consult a veterinarian or qualified pet nutrition specialist before switching diets.
